Packing a travel bag for your dog or cat

One small bag that travels with your pet makes both handovers easier. Here’s what to put in it, for dogs and for cats.

Keep it small and labeled

One soft bag is plenty. Put your pet’s name and your phone number on it, and tell us what’s inside when we arrive. A small bag is easy to hand over at the door and easy for the person receiving your pet to find again.

For dogs

Their lead and collar or harness, a blanket or toy from home, poop bags and a small towel. If they’re staying somewhere, add their food in a labeled container with the amounts written on the lid.

For cats

Their own carrier with the door secured, a blanket that smells like home inside it and, if they like one, a cover for the carrier. If they’re staying somewhere, add their food and a note about how they like to eat.

Notes for the other end

Anything the person receiving your pet should know goes on one page: feeding, how they like to be handled, what helps them settle and who to call. We go through it with them at the door.

What to leave at home

Gate codes, spare keys and anything valuable stay with you. If the other end needs access details, give them directly rather than packing them in your pet’s bag.
